The Scientific Exploration Society are making an expedition under the leadership of Col John Blashford-Snell which aims to show that traditional reed boats of ancient design could have been used to navigate the inland waterways of South America for purposes of trade and exploration; possibly crossing the Atlantic Ocean from west to east by a trade route under the Cape of Good Hope and via the Indian Ocean to the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea. Phase 1 of the expedition successfully finished in 1998 followed
by Phase 2 in 1999 and Phase 2A in July 2000. Phase 3 will start in May 2001.
Phase 4 is planned for 2002 and Phase 5 for 2003. Follow the links below for more information. |
